Rejection, Fear and Dating

 

It’s natural to be fearful of the dating process. After all, who wants to invite rejection by asking a woman (or man) for their phone number or asking them out on a date? However, you can’t let fear of rejection cripple you in this area of life.

If you let your fear of rejection get the better of you, you may never go on a date again or meet that special someone that you end up sharing your life with.

So how can you let go of your fear that you’ll be rejected when you ask someone out?

One way to look at it is that the worst that will happen is that she (or he) will say no. That’s it! But it’s important not to take that “no” personally. They don’t even know you, so they’re not rejecting the person you are. They may be rejecting the color of your hair or your eyes. Or they may be going through a break up and aren’t ready to date anyone.

There are plenty of reasons why somebody would say no to you if you ask to buy them a drink, ask for their phone number or ask them for a date. So don’t let the word “no” paralyze you and stop you from dating.

If you do let the fear of rejection run your life, then you’ll miss out on a lot. You’ll miss out on dating the opposite sex, developing a relationship and being intimate with that special someone. You’ll also miss out on settling down and having kids and a family life.

And you’ll miss out on all of this because you’re afraid of two letters that form the word “no”.

So get out there and when you see a woman (or man) that you like, talk to them. Ask if you can buy them a drink, or ask for their phone number. Even ask them out on a date! And you know what? If they do say “no”, so what? Yes, it might be disappointing if you’re attracted to them, but there’s going to be plenty more people out there that you’ll be attracted to, now and in the future.

Don’t let fear of rejection ruin your social life. Just remember that they’re not rejecting you personally if you do get rejected, so don’t take it to heart. Just enjoy dating, because one day you’re sure to meet that special person.
